The 'Red Devils' had not shown a good collective performance on the Old Trafford turf and, in the absence of clarity, set-piece opportunities became more important. Precisely, at the 67-minute mark, Erik Ten Hag's team had a corner kick, which Bruno Fernandes executed.

The Portuguese lifted the ball towards the goalkeeper Robert Sánchez's far post, who had trouble coming out to cut it due to the presence of Diogo Dalot in the small box. The right-back, unintentionally, ended up sending the ball into the 'Seagulls' net, without much power.

Immediately, the Spanish goalkeeper of Brighton threw himself to prevent the goal, but miscalculated: he hit the ball with his hand and caused a rebound on Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentine midfielder had gone to clear and the unexpected movement of his teammate caused him to score an own goal.

Robert Sánchez was not satisfied with what happened and approached referee Paul Tierney, claiming a foul. The VAR analyzed the request, although it did not ultimately prosper and Manchester United celebrated the goal that keeps their hope of at least a draw in this Premier League kickoff.
