Although he was heavily criticized at first, Darwin Núñez has started to silence doubters and is writing his own story at Liverpool. Something very similar to what happened a few months ago with Luis Díaz, who, just like the Uruguayan, didn't take long to shine for the 'Reds'.

The former Benfica player was key in the 3-1 victory against Manchester City, scoring the third goal for Jürgen Klopp's team after coming on in the second half. Thus, Anfield's team won the first title of the season by lifting the Community Shield at the King Power Stadium.

After the final whistle and the presentation of medals to the new champion -this title faces the winners of the FA Cup and the Premier League-, we could see how Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez celebrated together. Although both had not previously played on the same team, they had faced each other in the Primeira Liga in Portugal.

When the Colombian belonged to Porto and the Uruguayan to Benfica, they had intense title duels on more than one occasion. Now fate has brought them back together, but on the same team, and they will now fight together to achieve Liverpool's goals: winning everything that stands in front of them throughout the season.

Liverpool vs. Manchester City: prematch

The 'Reds', winners of the FA Cup, and the 'Citizens', winners of the Premier League, officially kick off the 2022-2023 season in England. Not only that, but the teams led by Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola will be the protagonists of a new duel that captures the attention of the whole world. As an extra, both teams will debut their new signings.

In Liverpool, Darwin Núñez is set to be the attacking partner for Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz. Meanwhile, Klopp announced before the match that goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota will be absent. So, Adrián will enter the lineup for the Brazilian '1' and the Portuguese attacker will be replaced by the Uruguayan forward, who arrived at Anfield from Benfica.

On the other side, Manchester City must take the field with Erling Haaland from the start. The Norwegian made his debut against Bayern Munich and needed only a few minutes to score a goal and secure a 1-0 victory. Guardiola's new goalscorer will be accompanied by Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish. Meanwhile, the Spanish coach confirmed Aymeric Laporte's absence due to injury.
