Who is Szymon Marciniak, the referee of the great final between Argentina vs. France for Qatar 2022?

Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been appointed as the referee for the final of the 2022 Qatar World Cup between Argentina and France, which will take place at the iconic Lusail Stadium, according to the Polish Football Federation.

The Polish Federation, anticipating FIFA, through an official statement, announced that Szymon Marciniak becomes the first main referee from Poland to officiate a World Cup final.

He is considered the best referee in the history of Poland, today at 41 years old and a career that has been steadily rising since his debut as a professional in 2009 and his internationalization in 2015. He has also been present in the decisive stages of the most important tournaments in Europe, such as the 2018 Super Cup final and one of the Champions League semi-finals this season.

Szymon Marciniak has already refereed Argentina's national team matches on two occasions. The first took place at the 2018 World Cup against Iceland, a match that the Argentinian team struggled with and only managed to draw 1-1.

The second opportunity occurred in Qatar 2022 during the round of 16 against Australia, where Lionel Scaloni's team won 2-1.

On this occasion, the referee team will be made up of three Polish officials: Szymon Marciniak as the main referee; Paweł Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz as his assistants. It should be noted that the latter is the son of Michał Listkiewicz, who was part of the final between Germany and Argentina in 1990 as a linesman.
