PSG managed to impose conditions on Benfica in the fourth matchday of Group H in the Champions League, but things are getting even again. During the second half, the Portuguese team earned a penalty and Joao Mário didn't waste the opportunity to score the 1-1 equalizer.
The match at Parc des Princes exceeded 59 minutes and the 'Encarnados' made a series of passes in the opponent's field. Finally, Alexander Bah played a filtered pass to Rafa Silva, but the midfielder couldn't progress and fell abruptly after the marking by Marco Verratti. At first, referee Michael Oliver didn't see the foul.
However, a few seconds later, the referee received a call from VAR and went to review the monitor on the side of the field. After analyzing, the referee determined that the infraction was inside the box and awarded a penalty to Benfica, unleashing joy in coach Roger Schmidt's squad.
Immediately, Joao Mário took possession of the ball and prepared to take the shot: he carefully looked at goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and shot towards the middle of the goal, in the top part. The ball hit the net and all the 'Encarnados' players celebrated with a fraternal hug in front of one of the stands of the stadium.
With this draw, PSG and Benfica will be tied at the top of Group H, both with eight points, and they are heading to the round of 16 in the Champions League. The standings are completed by Juventus and Maccabi Haifa, each with three points.
