Latest Chelsea transfer news and gossip as Kepa Arrizabalaga's future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain as the goalkeeper's loan spell with Real Madrid continues

The future of Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea remains uncertain amid his loan spell at Real Madrid.

Arrizabalaga joined the La Liga giants on a loan deal until the end of the season last August. The 29-year-old was signed by Real Madrid just days after Thibaut Courtois suffered an ACL injury last August.

At the time, the injury to Courtois left Madrid with only Andriy Lunin as a senior goalkeeper in the squad. Just four days after the news of Courtois' injury was confirmed, the Spanish club moved to sign Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on a temporary deal.

Now reports from Spain have emerged around Arrizabalaga's future in the Spanish capital. According to Sport, there is uncertainty about whether or not the goalkeeper will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond his loan deal.

It has been claimed that Arrizabalaga would like to stay at Real Madrid beyond his loan spell, and would be open to making the move permanent. However, the report states that Chelsea would demand a fee of €30 million (£25 million) in order to part ways with Arrizabalaga on a permanent basis.

Despite this update, it has also been reported that Real Madrid are not yet convinced about signing Arrizabalaga on a permanent deal. But the article does state that the La Liga giants are looking for a new goalkeeper to compete with Courtois when he eventually returns from injury.

Chelsea signed Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic during the summer transfer window, and have both played key roles in important moments for the Blues this season. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Arrizabalaga when the goalkeeper returns to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and if Real Madrid wish to retain the services of the 29-year-old on a permanent basis.
