Oriol Romeu returns to FC Barcelona 12 years after his departure
As rumored for weeks, Oriol Romeu returns to FC Barcelona. The midfielder returns to the club 12 years after leaving for Chelsea. The former Girona FC player signs until 2026. The blue and garnet team will pay five million euros for him, in addition to the loan for one season of young Pablo Torre.
Xavi has another of his desires for the midfield. The Barcelona coach wanted them to arrive before the tour and so it has been. Ilkay Gündogan and Oriol Romeu are now culé players. The Catalan, who made his debut in 2011 under Pep Guardiola with Barcelona, only played two games with the first team. It should be noted that the midfielder coincided then with his new coach in his time at Camp Nou.
However, the negotiations have not been as straightforward as one might expect. Romeu was a key piece for Míchel's scheme, who did not want to part with the midfielder. Not in vain, the Catalan has experience in the Bundesliga and the Premier League, as well as in LaLiga. In fact, in an interview with Relevo, Girona's coach said this about the player. "Leadership is in his DNA, I don't have to do anything. What I do is structure the team around figures like his, (...) Oriol structures the rest and what I try to do is enhance his virtues and relate them, adjust the distances so that he can relate to his teammates." A sign of the importance that the midfielder has had for him.
Finally, Barcelona has had to increase its offer to five million and include the loan for a year of Pablo Torre, a young promise that fits the profile of the player that the Girona team likes.
