Agustín Marchesín joins Celta de Vigo
The Argentine goalkeeper arrives at the Galician club from Porto
Renato Tapia has a new teammate at Celta de Vigo. The Galician club has signed Argentine goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín, the champion of the Copa America 2021, from Porto for one million euros.
"The Argentine international goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín joins RC Celta for the upcoming seasons once the agreement with FC Porto for the transfer of the goalkeeper has been closed. Marchesín will bring experience and security to the blue and white goal," says the Spanish institution.
"Marchesín, 34 years old and 1.88 meters tall, has accumulated forty call-ups with the Argentine national team and has played more than 525 matches in the Argentine, Mexican and Portuguese leagues. At his former club Porto, he played 94 matches and kept a clean sheet in almost half of them," details Celta.
Agustín Marchesín spoke out after becoming a new player for the team led by his compatriot, Eduardo Coudet: "First of all, I want to thank Celta for the trust. It is very important for me. I am very grateful for the opportunity to join this institution with a great history. It is a very beautiful opportunity for me and my career."
"From the first moment I found out that Celta had an interest in me... I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity. Fortunately, things worked out and I can be here," added Marchesín, who made his professional debut at Club Atlético Lanús.
"The Spanish league has always been one of the best in the world. Along with the English league, they are the two best leagues in the world. It is a league that is highly regarded in Argentina, and that is also very important to me," the rioplatense also indicated.
