The now central defender of Manchester United spoke out this Thursday and caused a stir when he talked about his departure from the Merengue team. What did he comment on?

Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane is one of the standout defenders in the world of world football. His security, good aerial play, and strength in marking have made him shine in the clubs he has played for and the French National Team. Even with Real Madrid, he was able to win the Champions League and, after his successful spell in Spain, he decided to join Manchester United.

In line with the change he made in his life, the defender expressed himself this Thursday and had strong statements about his former team, where he won countless trophies. Despite everything achieved with the 'merengues', he stated that he has no regrets about leaving.

"I have no regrets about leaving Real Madrid. In football, you have to take on challenges and try to improve. I wanted to live another experience after 10 years in the same place," he said.

Likewise, he highlighted that part of the change came because in England the game is played at a more competitive pace and he didn't think twice. "The Premier League is absolutely fantastic and Manchester United is a great club. There were no doubts about my decision," he said.

"A fresh start. Confidence is important and we lost it when we lost some matches. But I believe we have great potential," he added after living months with the 'Red Devils' and being on the verge of starting the 2022-2023 season.

Finally, the Frenchman praised the arrival of Ten Hag with an eye on the upcoming competitions: "The new coach is very positive. He wants this energy and high pressure on the field, with more space behind us. Maybe it's more offensive, but it's the football we really enjoy, so it's a good start," he concluded.
