The Spanish forward of Celta, Santi Mina, has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexual assault on a woman that occurred on June 18, 2017, in Mojácar (Almería).
This incident has led the Celta to open a disciplinary case against the teammate of Peruvian player Renato Tapia and temporarily remove him from the first team of the club for the duration of the investigations.
"Following the ruling of the Third Section of the Provincial Court of Almería, issued today, RC Celta has decided to open a disciplinary case against the player Santiago Mina to determine his employment responsibilities in light of this resolution. For this reason, and as a precautionary measure, it has been decided to temporarily remove the player from first team training, without prejudice to his continued participation in activities indicated by the club," reads the text from the Vigo team.
"RC Celta respects the player's right to defense, but feels obligated to take actions against acts that clearly damage the image of the club and directly violate its values, once again showing its absolute rejection of the offense specified in the judicial resolution," it added.
