Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito continues to celebrate their CONMEBOL Sudamericana title, and tonight at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium, the first team was able to take a victory lap with their fans.
Last Saturday, the 'albo' team won 'La Gran Conquista' after defeating Fortaleza on penalties in Punta del Este. On Sunday, the celebrations took place in the streets of the Ecuadorian capital, and yesterday the team led by Luis Zubeldía began to focus on the national championship.
Prior to the postponed match against Universidad Católica, the King of Cups' board of directors offered a musical show for their fans. With a large crowd in attendance, Liga de Quito held their respective awards ceremony after winning the CONMEBOL Sudamericana, where the players took a victory lap at their home stadium.
As a side note, the LDU flag that was in Punta del Este also made an appearance at Casa Blanca. Additionally, Ezequiel Piovi, Alexander Domínguez, and José Quintero, the three captains, were able to lift the trophy in front of their fans. Now, the capital team will look to earn 3 points in the postponed match (matchday 8-second stage) against Universidad Católica, as the team led by Luis Zubeldía aims to win the second phase of LigaPro.
Ezequiel Piovi spoke to ESPN and expressed his pride in winning the fifth international title with Liga: "Something beautiful, it doesn't happen every year. Let the fans enjoy it, they deserve it; it's an honor for me to be the captain of this team, this group, and this institution."
It's worth mentioning that the 'albo' team hadn't won an international title since 2010 when they won the Sudamericana Recopa against Estudiantes de la Plata.
