Paolo Guerrero Wants His First Sudamericana

A few hours before the match between LDU de Quito and Sao Paulo for the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana, the president of the Ecuadorian club, Isaac Álvarez, compared Peruvian forward Paolo Guerrero to the recent addition to the Brazilian team, James Rodríguez.

"We respect the opponent, they have hired a great player like James Rodríguez. We have Paolo Guerrero and Jan Hurtado," he said.

Álvarez also highlighted the addition of the former Flamengo player to the Ecuadorian team, as he is a footballer with a lot of experience to contribute to the squad and his new teammates.

"Paolo Guerrero brought the hierarchy we needed in the team, he is a great professional. Jan Hurtado and Jefferson Valverde are also important signings for the semester," he added.

Despite being 39 years old, Paolo Guerrero will try to reach the semifinals of the Sudamericana with LDU. In this regard, the club's president stated that they will defend their home turf in the match against Sao Paulo on Thursday, August 24.

"We want to reach the Sudamericana Final, winning the fifth star is the goal. We trust everything the players and the coaching staff do. LDU feels strong when playing at home and feeling the support of the people," he mentioned.

It should be noted that, just three days before the list of Peru's call-ups for the matches against Paraguay and Brazil is announced, the Ecuadorian team has had no contact with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) to have Guerrero's presence in the start of the qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.
