The Ecuador national team will face Senegal in the last match of Group A of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and will determine its qualification to the knockout stages of the competition. La Tri is currently losing and is being eliminated from the World Cup.
Until the end of the first half, Gustavo Alfaro's team is currently third with 4 points, while the leader is Netherlands (7 pts.) and second is Senegal (6 pts.). In this article, find out the results they need to qualify for the knockout stages.
Ecuador wins
If Gustavo Alfaro's team achieves a victory, they automatically qualify. They would only need to determine whether as the first or second-placed team. To be the leader, they would have to wait for the Netherlands to meet the following requirements:
- Lose against Qatar.
- Draw against Qatar.
- Win against Qatar with a goal difference lower than Ecuador's against Senegal.
With any of those results, La Tri would move to the top of Group A.

Ecuador draws
If Ecuador draws against Senegal, they would also qualify directly. If they want to advance as the first-placed team in Group A, they would have to wait for the following results from the Netherlands against Qatar, which are very difficult to happen:
- Lose against Qatar.
- Draw against Qatar without any goals or with fewer goals than an equalizer between Ecuador and Senegal.
Ecuador loses
If the Ecuadorians lose, their chances are minimal. They will have to wait for Qatar to defeat the Netherlands in order to qualify with a better goal difference. However, currently the Dutch are surpassing the host.
