Liga de Portoviejo beat Olmedo 3-1 on Thursday night at the Olímpico de Riobamba, in the penultimate round of the LigaPro Serie A second phase. With this result, "La Capira" remains in the fight to maintain their category and the decision will be made on the last round.
Forward Francisco Fydriszewski (35 minutes) opened the scoring taking advantage of a tangled play with failed defense clearances. The Argentinian striker scored his twelfth goal of the season.
The lead didn't last long, as midfielder Willian Cevallos (38 min) equalized from the penalty spot.
In the second half, local defender Santiago Mallitasig (48 min) was sent off with a second yellow card for a strong tackle on Fydriszewski.
The Manabí team pushed forward and, with a left-wing approach and a cross from Gabriel Méndez, striker Vinicio Ángulo (61 min) headed in to score the second goal.
Another penalty was awarded, but this time in favor of the visiting team. Argentinian Gabriel Méndez (71 min) was in charge of scoring the third goal and sealing the match.
In the final round of the tournament, Olmedo will visit Emelec, who is seeking, although with less chances than Barcelona (1st), to reach the final against Liga De Quito. Meanwhile, Liga de Portoviejo is with 27 points in the overall standings and one point away from their relegation rivals: Mushuc Runa and Orense; they close their participation against Aucas. (D)
