The Peruvian men's volleyball team is still in search of a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The national team qualified for the Pre-Olympic tournament in January after finishing among the top six teams in the 2019 South American Men's Championship.
Only the top four teams from the South American tournament will go to the Pre-Olympic: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Venezuela have already advanced to the semifinals, but since the first two countries are already qualified for Tokyo 2020, the spots are given to the fifth and sixth place teams.
Peru defeated Ecuador 25-22, 25-22, and 25-15 and will now compete for fifth place in the competition. They are waiting for their next opponent, which will be determined by the match between Colombia and Bolivia. Regardless of the result, the Peruvian team will be aiming for Olympic qualification in January.
"We won 3-0 against Ecuador, we will fight for fifth place and we are already qualified for the Pre-Olympic! There is still an Olympic dream. Let's go Peru!" wrote Eduardo Romay, the team captain, on his Twitter account. Let's go for the qualification, guys!
