President of Ecuador proposes joint bid with Colombia and Peru for hosting 2030 FIFA World Cup
President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, said on Saturday that he proposed to his counterparts from Colombia and Peru the organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup when South America should be favored with the hosting of the international tournament.
Moreno's proposal would go against the formal announcement made by Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile, who are jointly bidding to host the major sporting event.
"Yesterday (Friday) I proposed to Presidents Iván Duque and Martín Vizcarra that we organize the Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru 2030 World Cup, a year in which South America is favored to be the host," Moreno said on his Twitter account.
Yesterday I proposed to Presidents @IvanDuque and @MartinVizcarraC that we organize the Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru 2030 World Cup, a year in which South America is favored to be the host. All our support to @FEFecuador and their president @franciscoegas to achieve it!

The Ecuadorian president added that he will give full support to the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) to "make this dream come true in Ecuador," without providing further details.
Neither Duque nor Vizcarra have publicly commented on Ecuador's proposal. Moreno met on Friday in the Colombian town of Leticia with the presidents of Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, and foreign ministers from other countries to join efforts and protect the Amazon ecosystem.
Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay announced earlier this year that they will submit their candidacy to host the World Cup, a proposal that Chile joined in February.
