Who is María Corina Machado?
María Corina Machado is a Venezuelan politician and activist. She was born on October 7, 1967 in Caracas, Venezuela. She is known for her active participation in Venezuelan politics and her critical stance towards the government of former President Hugo Chávez and his successor, Nicolás Maduro.
Machado was elected as a deputy in the National Assembly of Venezuela in 2010 for the state of Miranda. However, her mandate was revoked in 2014 by the National Constituent Assembly, a legislative body created by the Maduro government. Despite her removal, Machado remained an influential figure in the Venezuelan opposition.
What similarities does María Corina Machado have with Bukele in Venezuela?
Nayib Bukele is not directly related to Venezuelan politics and, therefore, there are no evident political similarities between him and María Corina Machado in the Venezuelan context.
However, in an exclusive interview with the Colombian magazine SEMANA, María Corina Machado considered that her non-traditional way of doing politics could have been influenced by the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele.
"I believe that there have been authoritarian acts, but certainly he has great popular support. And I must say that he also has it in many other countries in Latin America because people feel that he has swept away an old way of doing politics and people are yearning for order, transparency, and security", Machado mentioned to SEMANA.
