The departure of coach Ricardo Gareca from the Peruvian National Team continues to generate discussion, as the strategist was responsible for bringing the team back to the international stage, thanks to the results he achieved, such as qualifying for a World Cup after 36 years and building a competitive team in South America.
However, the Peruvian Football Federation has already started working to find the new coach for the national team for the upcoming qualification process, and among all the names on the list are the Argentinians Hernán Crespo, Sebastián Becaccece, and Jorge Sampaoli, but they would not be the only ones, as the Peruvian Juan Reynoso is also being considered.
However, Infobae has reported that there are four Colombian coaches who have also been added to the FPF's list, making them potential options to lead our national team.
Potential Colombian replacements
Here are the four Colombian coaches being considered:
Reinaldo Rueda
Coach Reinaldo Rueda is 65 years old and had a poor campaign with the Colombian National Team in the last World Cup qualifiers, as he failed to qualify the team for the tournament and received criticism from the press and fans of the country. In his career, the coach from Valle del Cauca participated in two World Cups. First, he led the Honduran National Team to South Africa 2010, and later he coached the Ecuadorian National Team in Brazil 2014.
Jorge Luis Pinto
Jorge Luis Pinto is one of the options that has always generated discussion in Peru, and this time is no exception. However, one disadvantage is that he has not coached since 2020, with his last experience being with the United Arab Emirates National Team, where he only managed three games. In addition to the Middle Eastern team, the Colombian coach has led Colombia, Honduras, and Costa Rica, and only managed to qualify the Costa Rican team for the World Cup in Brazil 2014.
Juan Carlos Osorio
Juan Carlos Osorio is another name being considered to coach the Peruvian National Team. He is a historic figure at Atlético Nacional and has the experience of coaching the Mexican National Team during the previous qualification process, leading them to the 2018 World Cup, where they achieved a surprising victory over the defending champions, Germany. He also had a brief stint with the Paraguayan National Team.
Hernán Darío 'Bolillo' Gómez
The last option that has emerged is Hernán Darío Gómez, a coach with a lot of experience at the national team level, having participated in three World Cups (USA 94, Korea & Japan 2002, and Russia 2018). His last experience was with the Honduran National Team in the recent qualification process, where he failed to qualify them for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
