Remembered for the goal that Colombia tied 1-1 with Germany during the 1990 World Cup in Italy, which gave them a place in the round of 16 for the first time and left a great memory of Rincón as part of a golden era of Colombian football. Today, the former footballer passed away at the age of 55 after suffering a serious traffic accident last Monday in Cali, Colombia.
A public bus in Cali crashed into the van where the former footballer was traveling, accompanied by three other people. Freddy Rincón was admitted to Imbanaco Clinic with severe head trauma and underwent surgery.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Freddy Rincón passed away, so the clinic sent a statement expressing their condolences to the family, as well as to his thousands of fans around the world. "We want to express our sincere condolences to his family, friends, acquaintances, and followers from all over the world. There will never be a way to express what it feels like to lose one of our patients, whoever that patient may be," the document reads.
