Boca Juniors defeated Almagro 4-3 on penalties in the Copa Argentina round of 16, this Sunday September 10th. Ezequiel Bullaude (26′) and Lucas Blondel (45+3′) scored for the 'Xeneize' team, but they would suffer a setback during the second half. Facundo Silvera (59′) and Agustín Maidana (74′) equalized the score during regulation time. In the penalty shootout, 'Chiquito' Romero stood tall once again and was decisive from the twelve steps.

Boca Juniors, who have reached the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores, are not finding their way in the local league where they suffered their second consecutive defeat, this time 1-0 at La Bombonera against the modest Tigre, who was last in the Copa de la Liga del fútbol argentino.

Abel Luciatti (37), with a header, scored the winning goal for Tigre, who debuted Lucas Pusineri as coach in place of Juan Sara, who had resigned after the two defeats at the start of the tournament.

Despite being among the top four in the Libertadores, Boca has not been able to show a good image and has gone four games without scoring a goal in both the Copa and the domestic league, with scoreless draws against Racing in the quarterfinals and defeats against Sarmiento (1-0) and Tigre, and only one victory in their last seven matches.

Boca's offensive drought was not even broken with the decision of coach Jorge Almirón to field two area forwards like the Uruguayan Edinson Cavani and Darío Benedetto, and although he later made substitutions in search of answers, they only managed four shots on target.

"I'm not really concerned about that (the lack of goals), we have been changing and looking for alternatives. I know the team will be strong. We struggled to generate so many chances, the decision making, the final pass and the good cross. We played rushed. We'll find the performance," Almirón evaluated.

Racing, eliminated by Boca on penalties in the Libertadores, returned to victory by defeating Estudiantes 2-1 in Avellaneda, with goals from Gonzalo Piovi (36, penalty) and Colombian Juan Fernando Quintero (50), who was the standout player of the match.

Estudiantes, eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana, scored at the end through Mauro Méndez (90+4, penalty).
