However, according to the Argentine press, there would have been - prior to the Qatar 2022 World Cup - a somewhat uncomfortable exchange of words between Claudio Tapia, president of the AFA, and Lionel Scaloni, which would be the main reason why he has not yet renewed as coach.

It was thought that the central cause had to do with an economic issue, but no. There were attitudes on the part of the leadership that Scaloni decided to endure in silence, but now, with the Copa America medal, La Finalissima, and the World Cup, he decides not to expose but to smooth out.

What was known was that Scaloni was uncomfortable with certain management decisions, which he considered somewhat risky for the team, and that is why he wants to set a condition. If everything goes well, he will sign his continuity; however, he also doesn't rule out the option of coaching Spain.

"Why not? Spain has given me a lot and it's my second home. Any Argentine would say the same because they treat us incredibly well. I feel part of this country, but Spain is right to have Spanish coaches. If I could have a Spanish player on my team, it would be Pedri," he said.

These days Scaloni will be traveling from Mallorca, where he resides with his family, to Argentina in order to renew his contract with the national team and continue to be the coach until the 2026 World Cup. Although everything has been agreed upon verbally between him and the president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, it remains only to confirm that what has been agreed is written and signed to officially start the process that will have as its main attractions the 2024 Copa America and the 2026 World Cup.
