Peruvian fencer wins gold in individual women's épée

Peruvian fencer María Luisa Doig defeated Argentine fencer Clara Di Tella in the final of the women's individual épée event.

Golden épée. It was one of her favorites in her fencing category and she did not disappoint the Peruvian people. María Luisa Doig won the gold medal for the country at the 2022 South American Games in Asunción.

The national athlete stood at the top of the podium in the women's individual épée event amid the jubilation of the crowd and the athlete herself.

"Thanks to everyone for their support. Thank you for your encouragement. Long live Peru, I am very excited. I dedicate this victory to all Peruvians and my family," the fencer said to Team Peru Noticias.

Doig defeated Argentine fencer Clara Di Tella 14-13 in a very close final where the Peruvian athlete was able to come back.

Brazil in the lead
Brazil topped the medal table of the 2022 South American Games with 75 medals, 33 gold, 29 silver, and 14 bronze, on the third day of the competition that started on Saturday in Asunción and will end on October 15.

Colombia is in second place with 59 medals (21 gold, 18 silver, and 20 bronze), followed by Venezuela with 29 (7 gold, 7 silver, and 15 bronze), Chile with 24 (6 gold, 6 silver, and 12 bronze), Argentina with 31 (5 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze), Ecuador with 11 (4 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze), and Paraguay with 12 (3 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze).
