The Monumental Stadium of Ate was inaugurated on July 2, 2000, and since then, Universitario de Deportes fans proudly claim that their venue is the largest in all of South America, however, they will lose this condition when the remodeling works of this new colossus of the continent are finished.

Counting stands and boxes, up to 80,000 spectators can enter the 'crema' venue, which in addition to hosting matches of the 'U' and World Cup Qualifiers, is also the venue of the first final of the Copa Libertadores that was played as a single match on a neutral field: in 2019, when Flamengo defeated River Plate 2-1 in a dramatic and agonizing definition.

When the works are completed around 2024 according to the established schedule, the Monumental in Buenos Aires will have a capacity of 81,000 spectators and will become the largest stadium in South America, surpassing its namesake in Lima.
