The lamentable death of Pierre Manrique has shaken the field of sports journalism, not only in our country, but also in Argentina, where journalists of the caliber of Martín Lieberman and Juan Pablo Varscky have sent their condolences, emphasizing the great journalist and person he was in life. And it is that, Pierre began his career as a journalist in Argentine lands. Here we tell you more about his life linked to sports journalism.
Pierre Marcel Manrique Valencia was born in Arequipa in 1973. From a very young age, he began his first steps in sports journalism. "When I was 12 years old, FBC Melgar trained at the Umacollo stadium, I lived only seven blocks away, it was on the occasion of preseason training, in 1985. I attended to watch the training every day, and I was attentive to what happened before, during and after the training sessions led by Professor Máximo Carrasco," the journalist said in an interview with Diario El Correo in 2019.
Later, Pier, as his friends called him, chose to study Electronic Engineering, which he left in a short time because he discovered that journalism was his world and his real professional vocation. In this way, he traveled to Buenos Aires and graduated from the Higher School of Sports Journalism of the Circle of Sports Journalists, soon he would begin a remarkable career.
After that, Pierre was the founder of the program Nevada Deportiva in 1990. Over the years, he worked in the daily coverage on the strips of La Oral Deportiva, on Radio Rivadavia, and also on Radio La Red. In addition, he became the general producer of La Oral when the program belonged to ESPN.
Likewise, Manrique established himself as a reporter for Racing Club for Radio Rivadavia in 2001, the same year in which he became Argentine champion. The notes prepared by Pierre were so good that he became friends with Reinaldo 'Mostaza' Merlo, coach of the 'Academia' at that time. This follow-up earned him the recognition of many Argentine players, directors, and journalists.

After 26 years of a remarkable career in Argentina, Pierre returned to his Peruvian homeland after receiving an offer from RPP in 2016. At that radio station, he was the Sports editor and reformed the way sports news was told. He founded a program called Fútbol como cancha, which is still being broadcasted today.
In 2019, he started the project Las voces del fútbol, a program he did with Eddie Fleischman and Miguel Rebosio, which is broadcasted on Radio Unión and via the web nationally and internationally.
