The end of grid girls in TC2000 races in Argentina

Promoters in tight outfits and revealing necklines will no longer be present on the podiums of TC2000 car races in Argentina, the most popular category in the South American country, announced its organizers on Thursday.

The decision follows that made in Formula 1, where it was decided to replace the models that accompany the drivers in the grand prix with children.

"In line with policies and actions agreed jointly with teams, brands and sponsors, their use is eliminated for actions that are strictly developed as an exhibition of advertising," says a statement from the Super TC2000 organization regarding the promoters.

The voluptuous models, umbrella in hand, were a classic in car races in Argentina and in official television broadcasts.

"Both Super TC2000 and TC2000 will promote the incorporation of personnel of both sexes for promotional functions, with attire similar to the rest of the team, and will eliminate the exhibition of promoters as a background in television or audiovisual notes of the official broadcast," explains the statement.

The decision was based on the fact that the representation of women in these roles "no longer matches current social norms" within the framework of the campaign against male violence.

In October of last year, the popular soccer club Boca Juniors also eliminated the presentation of cheerleaders prior to each game at its stadium, La Bombonera, in support of the "NiUnaMenos" movement against violence against women.

In Argentina, 292 femicides were recorded in 2017, according to figures from the People's Defender (ombudsman) published on Thursday. (D)
