The Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez is experiencing one of the most remarkable moments of his career in Olympiacos. After his time at the Al-Rayyan team in Qatar, he has stood out once again and is receiving many compliments for his performance in Greek football. Despite not playing in the team's last away game against Lamia, which ended in a 3-0 victory for the team coached by Spanish coach Míchel, the number 10 player of the Colombian national team demonstrated his commitment with a significant gesture.
While the rest of the Olympiacos team rested after the previous Sunday's match, the former player of important teams like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich decided to use the club's facilities to train. The supporters of the team quickly recognized him and in a Twitter account of a media outlet affiliated with the club, they highlighted the player's action.
"The coach gave the team a day off yesterday to help them relax before the upcoming derby, but James went to Rentis [club's center] and trained! He wants to be fully prepared for this important game." It reads in the Tweet.
We can only hope that Rodríguez has fully recovered from his muscular problems, as it is expected that he will be available for the next match against Panathinaikos, known as the "Derby of Eternal Enemies". This would allow James' team to close the gap with the tournament leader.
Why wasn't James present in the last Olympiacos match?
The AS newspaper reported that the former player of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and other teams did not have a major injury, but his coach, Míchel González, left him out as a precaution. The Spanish coach with vast experience, at 59 years old, has chosen not to risk one of his main players who has been dealing with an injury since February 6, when he had to be substituted in the goalless match against PAOK.
It is worth mentioning that in the 24th round of the competition, scheduled for Saturday, February 25, Olympiacos will face Panathinaikos, the absolute leader of the tournament with 54 points, which represents an eight-point advantage over James Rodríguez's team.
