The 2021 World Championship of League of Legends ended weeks ago, and Riot Games is already preparing for the next season corresponding to 2022. It is not surprising that the company has already chosen the locations where the tournament will take place. However, it seems that the announcement was not planned to be made these days, but due to an "error" it ended up being revealed.

The incident occurred on their Youtube channel where they accidentally published a video. Although it was removed within minutes, the fastest on the internet managed to download it before time and upload it to social media. For the upcoming Worlds 2022, it is confirmed that it will take place in four cities: New York, San Francisco, Toronto, and Mexico City. The international event will expand to North America from the group stage to the final.

This will be the first time that Worlds is held in North America since 2016. Likewise, it will also be the first occasion that a League of Legends event takes place in Mexico.

Riot describes Worlds 2022 as a "robust continental tour"

The company had planned for Worlds 2021 to be held in five cities in China: Shanghai, Qingdao, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Shenzhen. It is important to remember that Worlds 2020 was held in Shanghai, so it was already a familiar location for the organizers. However, Riot's plans changed due to the pandemic and they had to move Worlds 21 to Reykjavik, Iceland.

Only the cities are confirmed, and it is not clear whether there will be live audience or not. We imagine that everything will depend on how the sanitary protocols progress next year in relation to COVID-19. Mexico has been one of the hardest-hit countries by the pandemic, this year a major Free Fire tournament was planned to be held, but it ended up being canceled due to the increase in cases.
