After almost five weeks of intense negotiations and sudden changes in conditions, Mexican fighters Saúl Álvarez and Julio César Chávez Jr. reached an agreement to fight in May in Las Vegas.
In his official account, Canelo was the one who announced the news of the meeting, where the super welterweight crown of the World Boxing Organization will not be at stake. The fight is scheduled for May 6, only the venue, either in Texas or Las Vegas, is yet to be determined, the date in which Canelo usually has action.
"It's official. My next fight will be in May. Now I can do what I like. Speaking inside the ring and shutting him up," said the message.
Canelo and Chavez Jr agreed to the fight at 164.5 pounds (74 kilograms 615 grams), within the negotiation, the former Sinaloa champion was offered a guaranteed purse of $7 million, with a Pay-Per-View percentage of $6 for every purchase up to 600 thousand contracts, rising to 13, which would generate him profits of around $16 million for the fight.
But just as a good purse comes, Chavez Jr. will be obliged to weigh 164.5 pounds, if not, for each pound he exceeds that limit, he would have to pay a million dollars.
