It's a match of necessity between Ecuador and Bolivia. The two teams both failed to win their opening games in Group A at the Copa América and now play each other in Valparaíso with the obligation of picking up three points in order to retain their dreams of making the quarter-finals.
Ecuador, despite their defeat at the hands of Chile, looked to be in decent shape. They lacked precision in front of goal but showed that they have a playing style sufficiently well-developed to permit them to play a significant part in the tournament. In the other corner will be waiting battling Bolivia, who earned a meritorious draw against Mexico in their opening match. Bolivia's fortitude in Viña del Mar was based on their defence. Now they have to take the next step and improve in the attacking third if they want to be in the running for a place in the last eight.
Ecuador, who haven't won a match at the Copa América since 2001, when they thrashed Venezuela 4-0 in Barranquilla, have also only beaten Bolivia once in the continental tournament: in Chile, in 1991, and by the same scoreline.
