Mother of Jorge Sampaoli shares her emotions during the Copa América final
Odila Moya, mother of Jorge Sampaoli, was the most anxious spectator of the Copa América final between Chile and Argentina. Casilda, the hometown of the Argentinian coach, is a town located 56 km from Rosario, Santa Fe. In that place, the final of the Copa América Chile 2015 was felt differently.
"Here it was not fully enjoyed. There were different feelings because I am Argentinian, and I wanted Argentina to win, but I also wanted my son to win," Odila Moya revealed in an exclusive interview for ESPN.
The mother of Jorge Sampaoli offered details about how the Chilean coach felt the day before the match. "I always talk to him, but before the final, he was very nervous," she confessed. That's why Mrs. Moya, who constantly supports her son, believed it was convenient to give him a motivational push.
"I told him: 'You beat Spain, why can't you beat Argentina? You can do it,'" Odila Moya said, remembering the words she shared with the coach. In the 2014 World Cup, Chile defeated defending champion Spain 2-0 and eliminated them from the tournament.
In the final of the 2015 Copa América, Chile won on penalties against Argentina and became international champions for the first time in their history.
