Ricardo Gareca is the name that is trending the most in Chile after the painful defeat suffered by the national team against Venezuela by a score of 0-3 in the 2026 Qualifiers, so many are pointing out that the 'Tigre' would be the ideal coach to replace Eduardo Berizzo.
And after the constant rumors that have been going around in recent days, Mario Cupelli, the lawyer of the former Peru coach, spoke about the possibility of seeing Gareca with the 'La Roja' team, stating that, at the moment, they have not had any conversations and much less would they have accepted the position because 'Toto' Berizzo is still in charge.
"They have never had a conversation with me and we would not have accepted it while there is a coach in that position, besides being compatriots," he said in an interview with Al Aire Libre de Deportes Cooperativa.
In fact, Cupelli stated that he would not be able to give any answer or say anything if they give him the chance for Ricardo Gareca to be the coach of Chile out of respect for Eduardo Berizzo.
"We would have never spoken, it is not our style. And if they call me, I would not say a single word because there is a coach working and we respect that. There is no possibility of us talking," he explained.
Ricardo Gareca was the coach of the Peruvian national team until 2022.Cupelli stated that Gareca cannot respond to the Chilean call.
Finally, Mario Cupelli affirmed that the reason they do not speak with any federation or club when there is a coach involved is because it is a rule within Ricardo Gareca's technical command.
"I cannot answer anything while Berizzo or whoever is there. It is a code of conduct that we have. We do not speak with anyone while there is a coach working," he concluded.
