Crash during the third stage of the Tour de France

A crash 58 kilometers from the finish line affected about twenty riders and caused the race to be neutralized for several minutes. Among those involved were Fabian Cancellara, Simon Gerrans, Kozontchuk, Tom Dumoulin, and William Bonet, who seemed to be the most affected and needed a neck brace after being lying on the ground. The television announced a few minutes later that Ten Dam, Gerrans, Dumoulin, and Bonet had abandoned the race; that was not the case for leader Cancellara, who was able to rejoin the race thanks to the neutralization. The race organization chose to stop the riders for about 15 minutes and then resume the race with 50 kilometers to go. The crash occurred on the right side of the peloton, near the first cyclists in the group and while riding at a high speed. The three ambulances that were in the race stayed to attend to the injured from the crash. Bonet touched the wheel of the rider in front of him and ended up displaced and run over by other cyclists. In addition, a lamppost on the right side of the road worsened the consequences of the incident, as several cyclists collided with it.
