Tsitsipas defeated by Alcaraz in Roland Garros quarterfinals
Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas was crushed in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros by Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz. Tsitsipas compared the world number one to "Speedy Gonzales", the famous cartoon mouse.
The Greek player, who lost in the final against Novak Djokovic two years ago, refused to pick a favorite for the semifinal between Djokovic and Alcaraz, but stated that he is "on the side of youth".
"One has the experience, the other has the legs, he moves like Speedy Gonzales. One can make incredible shots, the other has the control and the pressure he puts on his rival," he analyzed.
Tsitsipas attributed his poor performance in the first two sets to taking melatonin for a nap prior to the match to adjust to the nighttime schedule.
"I won't do it again, it didn't sit well with me. I did it because these time changes were affecting my sleep schedule and for me, being able to rest is fundamental for recovery," said the Greek player, who clarified that he did not mean to "diminish Alcaraz's merit".
