Terence Crawford ran into Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis during today’s weigh-in for his fight against Israil Madrimov.
Crawford approached Ennis and said, “I thought you weren’t going to watch?” Boots crossed his arms when Crawford approached him, which could have been interpreted as a defensive move just in case Terence wanted to throw a punch.
The Heir Apparent
I can’t blame Boots for crossing his arms just in case Crawford wanted to take a swat at him for being his heir apparent. The way that he walked up on Boots, you just don’t know what was going through his head. For all we know, Crawford might have gotten ideas in his head to get an early lead against Ennis before they even signed for a fight.
Ennis is coming off of a fifth-round knockout win over former Crawford opponent David Avanesyan on July 13th. Boots knocked out Avaneysan faster than Crawford had two years ago with his sixth-round TKO win.
‘Boots’ Ennis has been calling out Crawford for the longest, and he wants to fight him to take the torch and become the next star. However, Crawford is unwilling to help the young lion out and is looking for bigger game against Canelo Alvarez at 168 next year.

If Crawford had been following the news, promoter Eddie Hearn had revealed that he’s going to be at the fight, and he wants Terence to face him next if he can’t get the Canelo Alvarez clash. Hearn wants Crawford to fight Boots next because he feels his fighter will beat him, and he sees that as the ideal stepping stone for the young talent to become a mega-star.
Ennis Explains His Presence
“I came here to support my teammate, Andy Cruz, and see him put on a show, and I was invited. So, I couldn’t turn it down,” Boots Ennis told Emily Austin of DAZN about why he came to tonight’s Riyadh Season weigh-in.
2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz (3-0, 1 KO) is fighting Antonio Moran in a lightweight bout on Saturday’s undercard, live on DAZN PPV at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
