NXT's edition today, May 25th, started with bad news, as General Manager William Regal announced that after the hard punishment she had received in last week's main event, Bayley did not have the medical permission to cash out her rematch clause in NXT TakeOver. However, this opened up possibilities for Asuka's new rival.
Regal immediately solved the situation by announcing that Alexa Bliss, Carmella, and Nia Jax would fight in a triple threat to determine the new challenger for the title. This was the main event of the night and also served as a glimpse of the new generation of women in NXT, who will carry the division in the coming months.
Although Carmella was a great technician and Alexa Bliss did a very good job as a villain, in the end, Nia Jax's brute force prevailed and she got the victory. This means that the tension that has been building up between her and Asuka will finally have a place to explode when they face off in TakeOver.
With this, the card for NXT TakeOver on June 8th is currently as follows:
- Steel cage match for the NXT Championship: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Finn Balor
- NXT Women's Championship: Asuka (c) vs. Nia Jax
- NXT Tag Team Championship: American Alpha (c) vs. The Revival
- Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Austin Aries
It's worth noting that if Bayley had remained the challenger, this special TakeOver would have had a very similar card to the previous one, so this change will serve to refresh the product and also give more time to increase the tension between Asuka and Bayley.
