Marlon 'Chito' Vera received congratulations from the local and international sports community after knocking out former champion Dominick Cruz in the main Bantamweight fight of the Ultimate Fighting Challenge (UFC) held on Saturday, August 13 in San Diego.
'Chito', who is ranked fifth in the division, may challenge the champion of the category, Aljamain Sterling, in a title fight. Sterling, an American martial artist of Jamaican origin, was one of the first to speak out and congratulated Vera for his technique in winning the fight. Boxer Teófimo López, who also celebrated his knockout victory against Pedro Canva, also shared his thoughts on the match.
"Father Time is truly undefeated. I said before this fight, that it may be the passing of the guards. Chito can still take a shot, Cruz, not so much. It’s the circle of life in this game. Chito caught him at the right time in both their careers. Great win!" - Aljamain Sterling
