The Patriots have signed defensive backs Jalen Elliott and Brad Hawkins, the team announced Tuesday.
Elliott and Hawkins worked out for the team on Monday and were present for Tuesday’s practice.
Elliott is a second-year safety who entered the league with Detroit as an undrafted rookie last season. He split the 2021 season between the Lions’ practice squad and active roster. Elliott played in eight games and made one start, totaling eight tackles in the process. Detroit released him in mid-May.
Hawkins is an undrafted rookie safety out of Michigan. The 6-foot-1, 221-pounder played in 56 career games, a program record, and recorded 178 tackles, eight pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Hawkins was considered a steady, but unspectacular, player in college. At his Pro Day, he clocked a 4.57 in the 40-yard dash.
