Roger Federer: "I have had the best preparation for Wimbledon"

The Swiss Roger Federer, world number two, has said that he has had "the best preparation" possible for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season, in which he will try to win his eighth title, and has stated that winning the Halle tournament (Germany) has given him the "extra confidence" he needed.

"It has probably been the best preparation I have had for Wimbledon because we had one more week on grass. Winning Halle has given me the extra confidence that I suppose I will need to win the title here," he said at a press conference.

The Swiss, who has not won a Grand Slam since 2012 - precisely Wimbledon -, remembered last year's final at the All England Club, when he lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic. "I didn't expect to be in the final. To be honest, I was still a bit on the comeback trail after the injuries of 2013. But things went faster than I thought," he recalled.

"This year I feel that my game is better. I have gotten used to the racket, and this is not the first time I am at Wimbledon with Stefan Edberg. I feel that I can really aspire to win Wimbledon this year, whereas last year, it was about making a comeback," he continued.

When asked about his retirement date, 33-year-old Federer said he doesn't think about it. "I don't want to think about it because the more I think about it, the closer I am to retirement," he joked. "It's clear that I have to think about it, but not at the moment," he concluded. The winner of 17 Grand Slam titles will make his debut on Tuesday in the first round against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.
