After several weeks of uncertainty about the future of Rey Mysterio
The situation seems to have normalized. It all started with the wrestler's discomfort regarding some details in Lucha Underground, and later, Konnan revealed that AAA owed him money, and that's why he was looking for a way to return to WWE.
Dave Meltzer, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer newsletter, reveals that all financial matters with Mysterio have been settled, and that he could actually return soon to appear in AAA.
"But there are no dates announced to bring him back. The problem is that, due to the devalued peso, the cost of his payment has become prohibitive, except for an event like Triplemanía."
Meltzer also reports that, unless there is a way to get out of his contract with Lucha Underground, Mysterio could not go to WWE until after the third season is aired, that is, in July or August 2017.
On the other hand, in an interview with Channel Guide Magazine, Mysterio spoke about Kalisto, who is seen by WWE executives as the new Rey Mysterio:
"I have always said there will be no other Rey Mysterio. Similarly, you will not find another Shawn Michaels or another Eddie Guerrero; always just one. Kalisto will eventually create his own fan base and become himself. He is already starting to do it and doing a great job.
"I think he is definitely the next one to succeed with the masked character. I am not jealous or regretful or anything like that. If anything, I am very happy because he has the opportunity to succeed and can eventually become a world champion, which I think is the number one priority.
"He is currently the United States Champion and is working with a good wrestler who can guide him. Previously I was there and Alberto del Rio had just arrived, and in a way I passed the torch to him. Now he is doing the same. That's how this industry works, especially among Latinos. We are very few, and we have to make sure to maintain the legacy."
