Brazilian striker Charles opens a new chapter in his career, taking on a new challenge that was clearly influenced by his relationship with Málaga coach Javi Gracia: “I only considered the Málaga option because of who the trainer is. I worked with him at Pontevedra and Almería. He got the best out of me and spoke to me. At Almería he was really important. That was an unforgettable season. I’m really happy and I hope to live up to expectations. The most important thing is that he has faith in me, and that’s why I chose Málaga,” the 31-year-old forward told Spanish radio station SER.
Clearly Gracia was a key component in his decision, although Charles stressed how there were also other factors involved: “Málaga is also a big club and has great fans. It’s a big club in Spain and a side that likes to play football,” he said. “I hope to help the team. I’ll give it everything and work as hard as I can with humility. The goals will surely come with my hard work,” he said. The deal will be concluded with a medical and the Brazilian striker’s signature.
