During 2015, Finn Bálor, the current NXT Champion, was very clear in stating that he had no interest in being promoted to the main roster, repeating that, for him, more than an advancement represented a setback, taking a step back. He repeated it so much that, by mistake, we also repeated it.
And Bálor's stance is understandable if we see the way NXT has grown, which at this point is more important to the WWE Universe than Smackdown (a program that used to be very popular, according to various historians). So far, the difference between the so-called main roster and NXT is the money the wrestlers earn, but that could change in the future, especially with the idea of reducing the number of PPVs, making the NXT specials more relevant.
However, Bálor seems to have changed his mind. Perhaps it's because of the economic aspect, perhaps it's because of age (at 34 he's no longer a young guy to start from scratch on the main roster). This is what he wrote on his Twitter account:
