When we could finally say that Roman Reigns had stopped “cruzazulear” and finally become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Sheamus came to cash in his briefcase and take the title.
So, after all, Sheamus didn’t just end up with the defeat of his Survivor Series-style tag team match, and he joins the small group of three wrestlers who have held the Money in the Bank briefcase, and who, after losing the match in which they were scheduled in the card, went on to successfully cash in the briefcase.
These are the three cases:
3- EDGE
Edge, a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, challenged Ric Flair for the Intercontinental Championship at the New Year’s Revolution 2006 event, but lost the match by disqualification after hitting Flair with his briefcase. Later, Mr. McMahon announced that Edge would cash in the briefcase, taking the WWE title against John Cena, who had just defended it in an Elimination Chamber match.
2- ALBERTO DEL RÍO
The current United States Champion lost in a six-man tag team match with R-Truth and The Miz against Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, and John Morrison at SummerSlam 2011, but later cashed in the briefcase against CM Punk after a savage attack from the now Hall of Famer, Kevin Nash.
1- SETH ROLLINS
Rollins lost his two-match winning streak at WrestleMania against Randy Orton with a spectacular RKO. But later, during the main event of that WrestleMania 31, he became the first person to cash in the briefcase both in the biggest WWE event and in the middle of a title match, defeating Roman Reigns and champion Brock Lesnar.
And as they say: “Who laughs last, laughs best.”
