History repeated itself. Less than a year ago, Goldberg ended up being one of the most criticized wrestlers after his terrible match against The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia. Now, the WWE universe boos him for winning the current universal title by defeating Bray Wyatt "The Fiend" in Super ShowDown 2020.
After the event held this Thursday in the afternoon, social media -Twitter, specifically- is filled with disapproving comments about the decision made by Vince McMahon's company to give the SmackDown belt to the icon and take it away from Wyatt on the road to WrestleMania, the biggest event of the year.
No more part-timers
Goldberg is a legend and no one doubts that. But fans demand that retired wrestlers don't come and disregard all the sacrifice made by the new wrestlers trying to make a name for themselves in this industry. In this case, Bray Wyatt.
The character of "The Fiend" was meticulously built over the past few months, reinventing the "demon" into someone powerful and even impossible to beat. As part of the show, Wyatt became one of the most applauded in the company since he returned to it. He didn't have bad defenses (although the match against Rollins was terrible), but he had credibility as the belt holder. Until today.
We recently saw WWE carefully announce Goldberg's return to the blue brand to challenge the former champion. We were all expecting a heavyweight fight, but with a title defense, something that didn't happen.
With four spears and a poorly applied jackhammer, Goldberg became the new universal champion against a Wyatt who didn't look like the unbeatable being we were sold on some time ago. Someone who appears every now and then is the main figure of a show starring a character that has been developed over the years.

All for the money
Why did Goldberg win? For the money. It has been rumored for a long time (not to say it has been announced/confirmed) that Roman Reigns will win the Elimination Chamber event to challenge the SmackDown champion at WrestleMania. However, WWE considers that a match between Reigns and Bray Wyatt is not as interesting as against Goldberg, a figure from the past.
Fans know it (it's not the first time they've seen it), so they are protesting on social media:
You have Wyatt rack up countless victories, and have him become Universal Champion, and present him as an unstoppable force...but have him lose to a f*cking part-timing legend that can't have a match longer than 2 minutes.
You have just ruined the whole Fiend character.
Will there be a way to fix it? Hardly. Apparently everything is set for Reigns and Goldberg to face off at WrestleMania. May someone have mercy on us.
