Denis Cheryshev’s time on loan with Villarreal is over and the player is set to join up with Real Madrid for pre-season training although his immediate future has yet to be resolved. Real Madrid are looking to sell him or use him as part of an exchange deal, but Rafa Benítez has claimed he is only prepared to let the Russian player leave the club if a replacement for the right wing is secured. There may be a case where Cheryshev wears the white shirt next season.
The player is currently on holiday in the Dominican Republic and is still waiting for a call from the new coach to hear, first hand his intentions for the player. “My future affects many areas, so it’s not so simple. I need to return to Real Madrid, and they in turn need to decide as to what to do. Once the club has decided, then we have to just take things from there”, commented Cheryshev recently.
AS already reported that Liverpool are one of the teams interested in securing the Russian’s services. The Anfield club are prepared to offer between 15 and 20 million euro for his signature. They see him as a perfect substitute for Sterling, should he leave Anfield. Villarreal are also interested in a return for Cheryshev, despite just completing the signing of Samu Castillejo. The Russian player knows that Villarreal is high on his list of priorities: “If no major offer comes through, then my first option would be to stay at Villarreal”. The priority for the player is to secure playing time and he his aware of the difficulty of getting to play regularly at Madrid. At the moment everything is on standby and the ball is in Real Madrid’s court.
