UFC 242: Khabib Nurmagomedov and the best moments [PHOTOS]

Khabib Nurmagomedov remains the king of the lightweight division, as he defeated Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 242. The Russian made his opponent surrender with a rear-naked choke in the third round.

In the first round, the 'Eagle' Nurmagomedov came out strong and nearly secured the victory. Poirier managed to survive, but almost fell again seconds before the end of the round; he was saved by the bell. The 'Diamond' endured the second round, even landing a powerful right hand on his opponent, but in the third round, he couldn't escape the Russian's rear-naked choke.


This way, Khabib continues to build his legacy in mixed martial arts. He has fought 28 times and has never been defeated. "I want to thank my father, my team, and my brothers who are here. Everything I have is because of them," said the lightweight champion after his victory.

He also stated that he wants to forget everything that happened after the fight with Conor McGregor, and that he wants to prove that he is not the person who jumped out of the octagon to start a brawl.

Regarding his next fight, he declared: "The last two years have been difficult for me because of my shoulder injury. I want to take a break and then we'll see who's next." Could it be Tony Ferguson?

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier are ready for what will be the main event of UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Both fighters made weight for the lightweight division (155 lbs) and had their final face-off.

When the 'Eagle' stepped on the scale, the Abu Dhabi crowd chanted his name. He registered the same weight as the 'Diamond' (155 lbs). During the face-off, they stared at each other for several seconds.

"It has been a great journey to get here, but tomorrow I will reach the top. I will leave the arena with the unified titles," said Poirier. Khabib, on the other hand, thanked his fans for their support. "I'm ready, I prepared for this fight for a whole year, I will defend my title and continue making history," he replied.

As a reminder, the 'Eagle' is coming off a victory over Conor McGregor and the incident that occurred after that fight. It has been almost a year and he will return to the octagon to extend his undefeated record of 27-0 against Poirier.

Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier earned the interim title after defeating Max Holloway by decision in April. Additionally, he comes with an important winning streak of five victories against opponents like Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Anthony Pettis.
