- The Undertaker drove Mexico crazy
History... better yet, pure history is what Mexico City witnessed at the WWE LIVE event. We thought we had seen it all after D-Generation X thrilled at the Palacio de los Deportes in 2010, but what we saw at the Arena Ciudad de México was lethal to the eye.
We saw one of the undoubtedly most dominant tag teams in WWE history: "The Brothers of Destruction", not only in terms of size and weight in the ring, but also in terms of what these great monsters represent, one from beyond the grave and the other from hell. Kane and The Undertaker left the fans breathless after their victory over the Wyatt Family represented by Luke Harper and Braun Strowman, who succumbed to a pair of "Chokeslams" and the Undertaker's favorite asphyxiation move, "Hell's Gate."
This left us stunned as we entered the break and generated great expectation, which would be crowned by an exquisite Main Event, in which Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt gave us the best street fight in WWE in Mexico, since their first appearance there back in 2004 (the same one that divided the fans for the first time all night). The match was intense and full of emotions, from Wyatt's use of the "Kendo Stick", to Reigns' chair shots, followed by a pair of broken tables in the humanity of each gladiator, Wyatt's "Sister Abigail", Reigns' "Superman Punch", who put the finishing touch with a "Spear" from which Wyatt could not escape, resulting in the three-count.
Overall, it was an event that started slow and gained momentum. Cesaro and The Miz starred in the first match, after a gross interruption on Rick Flair, the highest winner of heavyweight championships in history (16), by The Miz. Cesaro managed to defeat him with a "Sharpshooter."
Our compatriots, "The Lucha Dragons", were defeated by the well-known cheaters, "New Day", not before giving a great display of their aerial skills, in a "Fatal 4 Way" match which also included "The Prime Time" and "Los Matadores", resulting in a successful defense of the tag team championship for "New Day."
Then came the long-awaited Divas match, in which the trio called 'PCB', Paige, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch emerged as winners against Sasha Banks, Naomi, and Tamina.
In the semifinal match, we had King Barrett against an old acquaintance from Mexican wrestling, Chris Jericho, who had to use his best submission moves, "The Walls of Jericho" and the "Lionsault", while the former leader of "The Core" narrowly avoided all the counts made by the referee. Until finally, with a "Code Breaker", he ended Barrett's aspirations of victory. After winning Y2J, he was happy to return to the city that gave him his foundations as a wrestler, remembering that in 1994 he wrestled here under the name 'Corazón de León'; the Canadian star also added that he may have forgotten the Spanish language "but never Mexico City", which made his farewell a very emotional moment.
After this show and Reigns' victory, we can only thank WWE for allowing us to see the monstrous duo that was born in 1998 and that made... and continues to make history in the Universe of this company: Kane and The Undertaker, mixed with the freshness and daring of the current figures, Reigns and Wyatt, adorned with the beauty of the Divas, a touch of nostalgia provided by Jericho, and to give it a taste of home, the wonderful aerial combat displayed by Kalisto and Sin Cara, "The Lucha Dragons". What was experienced in the Mexican capital was a great gift from WWE to a fan base that has been meeting sales expectations for the past two years.
