PREVIEW:
The exciting Giro d'Italia 2018 will have its stage 13 on Friday (6:00 a.m., Peruvian time, via ESPN 3) between the towns of Ferrara and Nervesa della Battaglia, where the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (5th in the general classification) will try to consolidate his position among the top places.
Last Thursday, the Irishman Sam Bennett executed a brilliant final sprint to take the victory in stage 12 of the Giro d'Italia 2018, where Simon Yates managed to maintain his first place in the general classification.
Bennett perfectly timed his attack to leave behind the Slovenian Matej Mohoric and the Colombian Carlos Betancur. It was Bennett's second stage victory in the Giro d'Italia 2018, at the end of a 214-kilometer route from Osimo to Imola, the venue for motorsports.
"In the final I saw two guys in front, my team had done so much for me and I couldn't disappoint them. So I went for it," said Bennett, who rides for Bora-Hansgrohe. "I looked back when I saw how far the finish line was, I didn't know if I could make it, but I kept going and I did it."
Nothing changed in the general classification of the Giro d'Italia 2018. The British Yates maintained his 47-second lead over defending champion Tom Dumoulin. The Frenchman Thibaut Pinot is in third place, 1:04 behind Yates. The Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz is in fifth place, 1:56 behind.
