Oscar Valdez Shows Confidence in His Return to the Ring

The world champion, Oscar Valdez, has finally had the brace taken off his mouth after fracturing his jaw. He now sees his return to the ring by the end of the year.

On March 10th, the WBO Featherweight champion suffered a fracture in the fight where he decisively defeated Scott Quigg at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Two days after the fight, specialist Douglas Galen from UCLA placed a brace on Valdez and revealed that, fortunately, Valdez did not need major surgery.

He was only given six weeks of complete rest, and the Mexican fighter returned to Los Angeles in recent days to receive good news.

"I feel very good, they have taken off the brace in my mouth, and now we are going to start exercising in the gym," said the Sonoran, who made a stop yesterday at the place where he trains in Maywood, California, to greet his friends.

If everything continues to go well, Valdez could fight later this year, and he will know his opponent today, as this Saturday in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the local fighter Carl Frampton will face the Filipino Nonito Donaire for the interim WBO Featherweight title.

The WBO authorized the interim title a few weeks ago due to Valdez's injury, as he is still not allowed to use gloves or receive punches.

"The recovery is going very well, and we believe that my return could be by the end of the year," added the fighter who represented Mexico in the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics. Valdez, 27 years old, has an undefeated professional record of 24-0, with 19 KOs.
