Max Holloway shocked by Tony Ferguson's withdrawal from UFC 223
Max Holloway was taken by surprise when he heard the news of Tony Ferguson's absence from UFC 223. The company offered him the fight of his life, but at a high cost: he would only have five days to make weight.
That is why the UFC featherweight champion immediately called his nutritionist, George Lockhart, who accepted the challenge. He didn't hesitate to share his plan to cut weight in an interview with ESPN.
"It will be the most ambitious project of my life. We won't be able to make him lose weight, but we can definitely trim some pounds. His body will resist the treatment and it will be difficult, but he will have to follow my advice," said Lockhart.
"What Max will do is go for a run for a couple of hours this week. Then comes the recovery: ice baths, massages, stretches... His muscles need to recover after all the stress they will go through," he concluded.
Max Holloway will find out if the sacrifice paid off on Friday when he steps on the scale. If he succeeds, he will be able to fight for the UFC lightweight title against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
