In the past episode of Raw from Cleveland, Ohio, the enmity between Bayley and Sasha Banks reached its peak when “The Boss” attacked her former friend from behind, after exchanging words backstage.

However, the company originally had other plans. Dave Meltzer wrote the following on the Wrestling Observer website, clarifying that it was Bayley who was originally intended to make the heel turn:

“Bayley was the one who was originally going to switch sides. The card at the MSG event paired her with Elias against Cena and Nikki, until another decision was made. It was not a red herring, it was a written plan for that date that they ended up changing. However, it seems that Banks made the change. Plans like that change weekly.”

“Banks' heel turn was originally scheduled long before WrestleMania 2017. People who act like that don't change 100 times; it's somewhat mental, because you have to ignore everything that each wrestler tells you in every internal interview to believe it.”

Bayley and Sasha Banks

It is likely that WWE chose to make Banks the villain not only because she is a proven heel, but also because Bayley is seen by girls as a hero and role model, and they feared that showing her as a bad girl would affect merchandise sales.
