Although they continue to fight, big names in UFC history like José Aldo, Dominick Cruz, Anthony Pettis, Robbie Lawler or Alistair Overeem appear to be giving way to the new blood like (in their respective divisions) Max Holloway, Cody Garbrandt, Kevin Lee, Colby Covington or Francis Ngannou.
Within the first group, we could consider Frankie Edgar, a legend of the company, former lightweight champion, and after a lifetime he is still among the best. However, in his recent presentation he was defeated, for the first time finished, by Brian Ortega, the new top boy in the featherweight division.

This undefeated young fighter not only remains undefeated or has defeated one of the best in history, but he has also taken his rival's place as a contender for Max Holloway's title. After his recent victory, he spoke first about how he managed to win.
"My plan was: let me see what this guy is going to bring to the table, let me try to figure out his plan. He came in, he was hitting, he was moving. I didn't see him trying to fight, so I pressed him a little, then, once I really relaxed, I started throwing punches. Once I connected, that was it"
"I took my time to finish him. I knew he was dazed, and when I saw the opportunity to throw a punch to win, I threw it.""I have always said, and maybe the way I fight really doesn't show it. I feel like you really have to be there with me to feel how I fight. I knew I could hit him or fight on the ground, I'm comfortable either way and I feel that no matter what happens in the fight, I'll be fine."
He also spoke about Max Holloway's suggestion to fight at UFC 226, saying only: "Yes, of course".
Regarding this new fight for the featherweight title, UFC President Dana White also spoke, referring to the champion's recent injury.
"I just saw him. He's walking fine. We have to see what his doctor says. When he's cleared and ready to fight, we'll make the fight right away".
